IMPORT FREE SOUNDFONT FILES INTO EXS24

While surfing the internet for new sounds, I stumbled on a music production forum and the following post: “EXS24 can import .sf2 (Soundfont files) on its own.  Put the .sf2 file into ~/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/.  Start Logic, insert EXS24 in an instrument channel, load up the soundfont2 file, and EXS24 will convert it to .exs for you.”  WHAT!  How did I not know this?  This opens up a whole new world of free sounds……if you’re a EXS24 user, it’s like frickin Christmas morning.  Check out the following list of some of the best sites to download free Soundfont (.sf2) files.

1.  Homemusician.net

2.  Hammersound – Huge list

3.  SF2Midi.com

4.  Soundfont.it

5.  Shareware Music Machine

6.  Soundfont Exchange

7.  KVR Forum: The infinite free soundfont list – It seems like this list goes on forever but if you ever need something specific, you can find it here.

8.  SF2-Files – The sounds are for “demo purposes only” so download and use at your own risk.

9.  Soundzone

10. Synthfont – This page has a bunch of other links to free soundfont files but I haven’t had a chance to check them all out.

So go check out the sites, download some Soundfont files, follow the directions above, and import them into your EXS24.

When you convert soundfonts and other formats into EXS make sure to becareful where the wav files are going once they are imported. If at some point down the road you move your EXS library or samples around you can loose the imported files if you dont know where they are. Great site.
